A numerical rating is used to classify each type of stainless steel. Series numbers 200, 300, 400, 600 and 2000 are the most commonly used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most popular types are austenitic chromium-nickel alloys of type 304 and 316L. The 400 series of stainless steel, which is obtained from ferritic and martensitic chromium alloys, is used to make cutlery. Type 420 is called surgical steel, while type 440 is used to make razor blades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galvanized steel and stainless steel are often used to make manholes and access covers in the water treatment and chemical industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
